Zaheer Khan to fill Gautam Gambhir’s vacancy

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) became the champions of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. They played an amazing brand of cricket under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir. He transformed the squad and changed the mentality. The former India opener did something different while he was with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Gauti led the side to two playoffs before leaving the franchise.

After KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir became the head coach of the Indian cricket team, now former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan can replace him. Zaheer Khan’s name is being discussed for the coaching post of Lucknow Super Giants. Gambhir is currently the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. After Gambhir, there was no new mentor in the Lucknow franchise.

However, now the discussion is going on about Zaheer Khan. If ‘media reports’ are to be believed, Zaheer Khan could fill Gambhir’s vacancy in Lucknow. Apart from mentors, Lucknow Super Giants also lack a bowling coach. Now the team’s bowling coach Morne Morkel has also resigned. Morkel has also become a part of the Indian cricket team’s coaching staff. In such a situation, Zaheer looks more fit as a mentor, as he can also coach the team’s bowlers.

Zaheer Khan can bring in a lot of experience for LSG bowlers

According to a Cricbuzz report, talks are on between Zaheer Khan and LSG. However, neither Lucknow SuperGiants nor Zaheer Khan have shared any official information regarding the matter yet. Now it will be interesting to see if LSG takes the former Indian fast bowler as their mentor. The former speedster has the experience of managing an IPL team.

He was a key part of the coaching staff of the Mumbai Indians before he was appointed as the franchise’s Global Head of Cricket Development in 2022. Then was also appointed as a bowling consultant for the India national cricket team in 2017. Zaheer Khan played all three formats for India. He played international cricket from 2000 to 2014. He played 92 Tests, 200 ODIs, and 17 T20 Internationals for the Indian team.
