Young Chess Prodigy Anahita Mahajan Clinches Victory in BOB Cup Tournament

Anahita Mahajan delivered an outstanding performance in the under-6 age group, securing victories in all her matches to win the prestigious Samajratna Suresh Achrekar Memorial Cup during the BOB Cup chess tournaments organized by the Ideal Sports Academy on Independence Day.

Additionally, Anahita received a special award as the youngest sub-junior player to win all five series matches in the 6-14 age group chess tournament organized by the Bank of Baroda, RMMS, and Mumbai City District Chess Association. Her remarkable achievement was recognized in a felicitation ceremony attended by notable figures including sports organizer Namdev Ghag, athlete Chandrakant Karangutkar, and Shiv Chhatrapati awardee Leeladhar Chavan.

The tournament saw the participation of 158 school players from various districts, including Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar, who competed in vibrant matches held at the RMMS auditorium in Parel. The under-6 age group witnessed intense competition, with most players adopting aggressive strategies to secure wins. However, it was Anahita who stood out, displaying exceptional skill and composure throughout the event.

Anahita’s path to victory included swift wins against Reyansh Kalani, Kian Patkar, Viona Jain, and Abir Agarwal. In the decisive fifth round, she faced her toughest challenge against the undefeated Ivan Dubey. The match required Anahita to adopt a more cautious approach. After a tense battle lasting 19 minutes, she emerged victorious, defeating Ivan Dubey and clinching the Suresh Achrekar Memorial Cup by winning all five of her matches.

Anahita’s success at such a young age highlights her potential as a rising star in the chess world, and her achievements in this tournament have set a high standard for her peers.
