The ancient sport of yoga has been included as an exhibition sport in the 2026 Asian Games to be held in Japan. The Asian Olympic Council took this important decision. The Olympic Council of Asia took an important decision at its 44th general meeting on Sunday. The OCA decided to include yoga as an exhibition sport in the Asian sports calendar.
Yoga has been included in the 2026 Asian Games to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. In this session of the OCA General Assembly, India’s Randhir Singh was elected unopposed. He has been elected as the OCA President for a period of four years from 2024 to 2028.
Yoga will help athletes
Randhir said, “Yoga will be a showcase sport in Nagoya as the calendar for the 2026 Asian Games has already been drawn up and approved. In 10 days we managed to convince all the members and show yoga as an exhibition sport. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is promoting the sport. All other sports have a risk of injury, but it is a sport that gives your body a boost.”
Randhir said that if it is to be included in the medal program of the Asian Games to be held in 2030, the presence of yoga sports and athletes will have to be felt in the games to be held in Japan. Randhir said “Yogasana has to make its living presence felt in Nagoya. The benefits of yoga have to be told to other countries. We want to send trainers, teach other countries, and popularize it.”
