Asian champion Aman Sehrawat has clinched a Paris 2024 quota for India in the men’s 57kg freestyle category at the World Wrestling Olympic Qualifiers held in Turkey. However, Deepak Punia’s campaign came to an end as he was eliminated in the first round.
Sehrawat’s victory marks India’s sixth wrestling quota for the Paris Olympics 2024, but notably, it is the first in the men’s category. Before this, all five quotas were secured by Indian women wrestlers. Sehrawat, who is also the Under-23 world champion, secured his quota by defeating Choong Sang Han of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea with a commanding score of 12-2 in the semi-finals.
The tournament in Istanbul served as the final opportunity for wrestlers to secure quotas for the upcoming Olympic Games, with each weight class offering three quotas.
