Defending champions Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by four wickets in the opening match of the Women’s Premier League. Debutant Sajana hit a six off the last ball to give the team a thrilling victory.
Delhi Capitals scored a challenging score of 171 for five in 20 overs. Alice Capsey changed the picture of the match with a whirlwind knock of 75 runs. Chasing 172 to win, Mumbai Indians registered a victory in the last over. The architect of this victory was S. Sajana who played the first match. When Sajana took to the field, five runs were needed from one ball to win. Sajana started the tournament with a thrilling victory by hitting Capsey for a brilliant six.
Yastika Bhatia laid the foundation of the team’s victory with a quick knock of 57 runs with two sixes and eight fours. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur hit 55 runs off 34 balls to bring the team close to victory. She hit one six and seven fours. Amila Kerr contributed 24 runs with three fours. Debutant Sajana became the hero of the team’s victory by hitting sixes under a lot of pressure.
Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bowl first in the Women’s Premier League tournament that started at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Delhi Capitals scored a challenging score of 171 for five in 20 overs. Shefali Verma was dismissed for just 1 run. After that, the pair of Meg Lanning and Alice Capsey changed the picture of the match with a brilliant innings. Lanning and Capsey shared a partnership of 66 runs for the second wicket. Lanning was dismissed for 31 runs off 25 balls. She hit one six and three fours. Alice Capsey played a storming knock of 75 runs off 53 balls. In that, she hit three sixes and nine fours.
Jemimah Rodrigues batted aggressively. She hit 42 runs off 24 balls. She hit two sixes and five fours. Marizan Kapp contributed 16 runs with three fours. Nat Sciver Brunt and Amelia Kerr took two wickets each. Shabanim Ismail took Shefali’s lone wicket.
