Maharashtra Women’s Cricket Team star Kiran Navgire’s explosive half-century helped UP Warriors beat defending champions Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in the WPL.
UP Warriorz won the toss and put Mumbai Indians into bat. The Mumbai Indians got off to a solid start and that helped them put up 161 for six on the scoreboard after 20 overs. Mumbai was helped by some sub-par fielding by the Warriorz as they dropped several chances in the field. Haley Matthews top-scored for Mumbai with 55 runs off 47 balls.
Needing 162 runs to secure their first win of the tournament, UP Warriorz got off to a flyer as Kiran Navgire took the attack to the opposition. She hit six fours and four huge sixes. She was ably supported by Alyssa Healy who hit 33 off 29 balls. Together, the duo put on 96 runs for the first wicket and set the tone for UP Warrioz’s first win of the season. Later, Grace Harris and Deepti Sharma put on 65 runs for the third wicket to take UP Warriorz home.
In the process, the women in yellow also ended the Mumbai Indians’ unbeaten run.
