The Indian men’s team started their campaign at the World Table Tennis Team Championships on a winning note by defeating Chile comfortably 3-0 in Busan on Saturday.
Indian’s veteran player Achanta Sharath Kamal defeated world number 53, Nicolas Burgos, 11-5, 11-8, 11-6. Harmeet Desai then kept the winning momentum going as he defeated Gustavo Gomez 11-8, 11-7, 11-6. Later, though G Sathiyan faced some challenges initially, against Olivares Felip, he won 12-10, 11-8, 11-8.
With this win, India took two points and moved to third place in Group Three, behind South Korea (four points) and Chile (three points). Now the Indian team will face Poland on Sunday, after which it will face South Korea on Monday and New Zealand on Tuesday. The Indian women’s team will face Hungary on Sunday.
