Why are Liverpool hiring Arne Slot as their next head coach?

According to reports, Liverpool have agreed to make Feyenoord manager Arne Slot as their next head coach. The 45-year-old has been at the Dutch club for three years now. Prior to the job at Feyenoord, Slott managed Camburr and AZ Alkmaar. Having coached and played all his life in Netherlands, the move to Liverpool is certainly going to be a big one for Arne Slot.

Replacing a legend like Jurgen Klopp is not going to be an easy task. However, the Dutch coach will be confident in his ability as he comes to England on the back of a successful stint at Feyenoord. Arne Slot ended the club’s six-year wait for an Eredivisie title in 2023. His stellar coaching style and ability to develop talent are one of the major reasons behind Liverpool’s interest in him.

Reports emerged that Arne Slot had already spoken to Feyenoord about taking the Liverpool job. He has been in management for eight years now and this seems like the perfect time for him to take the big step. Liverpool were linked with another manager Ruben Amorim, before Slot’s name was taken into consideration. He has also achieved a lot of success in his short coaching career and Liverpool would have loved to have him onboard. However, the Portuguese coach denied the rumours and this has now opened the door for Arne Slot.

What makes Arne Slot special?

Arne Slot is known for his versatility in formations. He wants his team to play attacking football and often makes adjustments to deny the opposition any chance of figuring out his offensive strategy. Despite playing an attacking brand of football, Slot’s teams have always had a great defensive record. This year the club has only conceded 24 goals, which is the second-fewest in the Eredivisie.

He likes to play with a 4-2-3-1, but this can be changed depending on the situation. He is a highly likeable manager and this will go a long way for him in a club like Liverpool.

Why should Liverpool fans be excited about Arne Slot?

Arne Slot will have some big shoes to fill as he replaces Jurgen Klopp. The latter was brought into the club at a point when things did not look good for Liverpool. However, he has led them past that and they are now one of the best clubs in Europe.

It was Michael Edwards that brought Jurgen Klopp to Liverpool back in 2015. He left the club in 2021 but made his way back after a lot of speculation this year and is now the Chief Executive of Football at the club. Edwards’ decisions have all helped Liverpool massively in the past decade and this one is expected to be no different.

Arne Slot does not have a stacked resume, but he has an attractive playing style and this would help him easily fit in with the team. He likes using inverted full-backs and this gives Trent Alexander-Arnold a chance to move more into the middle and make those groundbreaking passes that can break down the opposition.

Although the news has not been made official yet, the deal is more or less done. Both teams have a few games left to play before the season finishes and maybe that is when the news will be confirmed.
