Which country bagged the most amount of medals at the Olympics?

The Paris Olympics 2024 has finally come to an end. The 17-day-long Paris Olympics officially concluded. Hundreds of medals won and a lifetime of glory ahead for winning competitors. It was a huge task to host a multinational event for more than two weeks. It featured 329 medal events over 32 different sports, about 10,000 participants, and possibly more while inviting millions of visitors.  

The United States and China always had close competition coming to the Olympics. The two nations have won an equal number of gold medals which is 40. But the US has overpowered their arch-rivals in the silver and bronze categories. So America got first place and China got second place. With one silver and 5 bronzes, India bid adieu to the Paris Olympics in 71st position, while Pakistan finished 62nd with one gold. 

The US earned a total of 126 medals, including 40 gold, 44 silver, and 42 bronze medals. China was second with a total of 91 medals, including 40 gold, 27 silver and 24 bronze. On the final day of the Paris Olympics, America and China competed for the gold medal. At the last minute, America equaled China in terms of gold. Japan secured third place with a total of 45 medals including 20 gold, 12 silver, and 13 bronze.

Australia is fourth with a total of 53 medals including 18 gold, 19 silver, and 16 bronze. The hosts France finished fifth with a total of 64 medals, including 16 gold, 26 silver, and 22 bronze. Next Netherlands finished 6th with 34 medals. The Dutch won 15 gold, 7 silver, 12 bronze. 

Overall the event was a successful one. There were controversies from the starting day of the Olympics and it had some discussions as well among the fans and the IOC. However, amidst all these Kenya is the first African country on the medals table with four gold, two silver, and five bronze medals. It has been a huge achievement for the nation and the continent as well.
