West Ham United’s Wanna Be Top 6 Attitude Is Shambolic

West Ham United have agreed terms to bring in Julen Lopetegui to replace David Moyes as their manager. The former Real Madrid boss managed Wolverhampton Wanderers last season before he was replaced by Gary O’Neil. He reportedly was on Bayern Munich’s radar but chose the Hammers after careful consideration.

David Moyes, who has been at the club since 2019 has been subject to a lot of criticism from the fans due to the team’s poor performances this season. The club are currently ninth in the standings and are out of European contention. They have leaked over seventy goals in all competitions and looked a shadow of their former self.

Despite the disappointing season they have had, West Ham United needs to remember that David Moyes is the manager who led them to their first-ever European trophy. The Scottish boss helped the Hammers to the UEFA Conference League trophy in 2023 just last season. However, since then he has lost the services of Declan Rice, a player who he mentored and made one of the best midfielders in the game.

Despite losing his services, Moyes helped West Ham United make a run to the Quarter-Final of the UEFA Europa League this season. The club have at times looked great in the Premier League, but their inconsistencies have led to the team not making a push for Europe.

Does David Moyes deserve to be removed from his managerial position at West Ham United?

David Moyes took over a West Ham team that was just one point away from being in the relegation zone. However, he brought life into the team and led them to finish sixteenth in the 2019-20 season. From thereon, the Hammers finished sixth and seventh respectively before winning the Conference League last season.

Prior to Moyes taking over the reins of the club, the team had not been in the Top 10 for three seasons. He not only made them believe that they could play in Europe but also helped them win a competition there. To just replace him without a proper send-off is shameful behaviour by the club.

The Hammers have just two games left and only one of them is at home against Luton this Saturday. The club need to do the right thing and announce that he is leaving the club at the end of the season if they plan to go ahead with Julen Lopetegui’s appointment. Moyes has brought a lot of joy to the club and he deserves a proper farewell, which they have already failed to give him. The least they can now do is announce his exit before the weekend so that he can bid farewell to the fans at the London Stadium.
