In the second semi-final of the Copa America 2024, 10-man Colombia defeated Uruguay to qualify for the final after 23 years. The Los Cafeteros continued with their 28-match unbeaten streak and will face reigning champions Argentina in the final of the quadrennial tournament on Sunday. The match itself was highly intensified with one red card and seven yellow cards being shown. The players from both teams pushed and shoved in a scrum on the field at the final whistle.
But the thing that caught everyone’s eye was off the field. After Liverpool and Uruguay striker, Darwin Nunez was involved in a fight with some drunken Colombian supporters. After the game ended the striker was seen throwing punches at Colombian fans in an ugly fight in the stands. The incident occurred as fans were seen throwing caps, cans, and punches at the Uruguay players, who were making their way back to the changing room after a disappointing loss.
The video of the fight has been viral on social media. It was shot by one of the fans at the Bank of America Stadium. In the video, Nunez can be seen growing irritated by Colombian fans’ chanting before entering the stands and punching a handful of them. Darwin Nunez was also joined by FC Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo and Atletico Madrid’s Jose Maria Gimenez.

Uruguay players utterly disappointed with fans’ abusive behaviour
Security officials and police officers rushed in between the fight to separate and calm down the situation. Along with that, they escorted the players away from the scene. A few players, including the 25-year-old, returned to the pitch to see their families. Their family had allegedly been abused by a group of fans. Gimenez lashed out at the security and police officials in Charlotte.
The players feared for their families’ safety, blaming uncomfortable actions on Colombia fans, who filled the stands on Thursday. This is not the first time that any footballer has gone on to hit the fans. Previously in the FIFA World Cup qualifier game between Brazil and Argentina.
