West Indies cricket legend Vivian Richards recently visited the Indian team’s dressing room to meet and congratulate the players. During his visit, Richards expressed his admiration for the Indian team’s performance, stating that if his own team, the West Indies, does not win, he will support the Indian team.
In the ongoing T20 World Cup, the Indian team has won all its matches so far, securing a place in the semi-finals. They defeated Afghanistan and Bangladesh in the Super 8 round. After these victories, Richards visited the Indian dressing room. He told Rohit Sharma and the team that if the West Indies are eliminated from the T20 World Cup, he would gladly support India.
Richards was in the Indian dressing room to present the fielding medal after the Super 8 match between Bangladesh and India. He praised the team, saying, “Excellent performance. What can I say about such a strong team? You have done well so far and all I can say is, if the West Indies team doesn’t win, I’m with you. Being from the West Indies, it’s good to see you here.”
The BCCI posted a video of this visit. Richards awarded the fielding medal to Suryakumar Yadav, who took an impressive catch of Liton Das at square leg. He also praised Rishabh Pant, saying, “Glad to see you here after that accident. If you had not come, we would have lost a great talent. It’s great to see you playing like this.” Richards commended Pant’s performance, calling it “Excellent.”
India’s place in the semi-finals is now certain. The Indian team entered the Super 8 of the ICC T20 World Cup by topping the league stage, having defeated Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA in three out of four matches. The match against Canada was abandoned due to rain. In the Super 8, India defeated Afghanistan in their first match and then Bangladesh in their second match, strengthening their claim to the semi-finals.
