Top seeds Vishnu Vardhan and Vaidehee Chaudhari made winning starts in their respective categories at the Fenesta Open. Multiple Asian Games medalist Vishnu (Telangana) had a rough start but won 7-5, 6-1 against Haryana’s Udit Kamboj. Udit Kamboj’s quick baseline movement and strong forehands kept the first set tight, denying Vishnu an early lead.
The score was level at 5-5 before Vishnu used his experience and accuracy to win the set and gain momentum. Vishnu controlled the second set, securing a 6-1 victory and advancing to the next round of the tournament. The 2022 Fenesta Open National champion Vaidehee Chaudhari defeated Gujarat’s Saily Thakkar with a solid 6-2, 6-4 win to advance. Vaidehee quickly took control of the first set, hitting a phenomenal cross-court forehand to win 6-2 convincingly.
Saily fought hard early in the second set, but Vaidehee’s consistent play helped her win 6-4 to progress. Karnataka’s Soha Sadiq dominated Delhi’s Kashish Bhatia with an easy 6-0, 6-1 victory in the women’s singles category. The Fenesta Open has seen participation from stars like Rohan Bopanna, Somdev Devvarman, Yuki Bhambri, and Sania Mirza in past editions. Tamil Nadu’s Abhinav Sanjeev pulled off a big upset, defeating third seed Ishaque Eqbal 6-1, 7-6 in an exciting match. The second set of the Abhinav-Ishaque match went into a tiebreaker, with Abhinav winning 7-6 (5) to advance. Sixth seed Ranjeet VM from Tamil Nadu dominated his match, defeating Oges Prakash 6-0, 6-2 to reach the next round.
Ranjeet took charge from the first game, showcasing his authority in the match and winning convincingly in straight sets. Winners will receive prize money from a total pool of ₹21.55 Lakh, along with a Kit Allowance for junior categories. Under-16 and Under-14 singles winners and runners-up will receive a Tennis scholarship of ₹25,000 each, enhancing their opportunities. The Boys and Girls Under-16 & Under-14 qualifying and main draw matches will be played between October 5 and October 12.
