The last time Virat Kohli played ODI cricket was 9 months ago on the 19th of November, 2023. On that fateful day, the whole nation cried with him as India lost to Australia in the ODI World Cup Final in Ahmedabad. But a lot has happened for the 35-year-old since then. After securing the Orange Cap in the 2024 IPL season, King Kohli finally won the only international trophy which has eluded him in limited-overs cricket.
Virat Kohli played a Player of the Match knock in the Final of the T20 WC 2024 to beat South Africa to the title. That was not the last twist in Virat’s tale though, as after the match he went on to announce his retirement from the shortest format of the game. Now, hardly a month later, Virat is all set to return to the Cricket in the format in which he is arguably the greatest ever, 50 overs cricket.
But this time, the team dynamic will be very different. India’s No. 3 will be playing under Gautam Gambhir for the first time in his career. To say that the new Indian Head Coach and Virat Kohli have had some disagreements on the cricket field would be a massive understatement. There have been multiple instances of the two Delhi lads having a spat on the cricket ground. Once, very recently during the 2023 IPL season when Gautam Gambhir was the head coach of LSG, another infamous incident between the two occurred when KKR played RCB back in 2013, Gautam Gambhir was captain back then.
But thankfully for Indian Cricket fans, it seems as if both men have squashed their internal beef. Not like they had any other option considering they’ll have to work together in the coming days.
According to reports on the Internet, Virat Kohli has informed BCCI about his decision to play the One-Day-Internationals bilateral series against Sri Lanka. Surprisingly Virat Kohli mentioned that part of why he is choosing to partake in the series is because it is Gautam Gambhir’s first series as the Head Coach of the Indian Team. Fans would be hoping this is the start of a positive bond between the two icons of Indian cricket.
In other news, Rohit Sharma will be back at the helm of the Indian side in ODIs and will be joining Virat Kohli in the dressing room.
