In the current IPL season, Virat Kohli has showcased remarkable batting prowess, yet discussions surrounding his strike rate persist. Addressing this topic, Kohli asserted his confidence in his game, stating, “Whatever people say, I know my game well.”
Kohli’s statement comes in response to scrutiny over his strike rate against spinners during the middle overs, particularly highlighted after his innings of 70 not out off 44 balls in a nine-wicket victory against the Gujarat Titans. Former cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar have raised questions about Kohli’s strike rate of 51 off 43 balls against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Following the match, Kohli reflected on his extensive experience, remarking, “There’s a reason I’ve been playing for the last 15 years. I’m simply doing my job. That’s my style of play. Regardless of external opinions, I have a deep understanding of my game.”
Despite securing a win, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) find themselves at the bottom of the points table with just three wins from ten matches. Kohli expressed determination to perform better, stating, “We aimed to play with pride and for our fans. Admittedly, we haven’t performed up to our potential in the tournament. We acknowledge our capability and are committed to giving our best.”
The Man of the Match, Will Jacks, who scored a century, credited Kohli for boosting his confidence during their partnership. “It’s an incredible feeling. Initially, I faced some challenges, but batting with Kohli gave me reassurance. Facing Mohit Sharma was a relief. It was a great experience batting alongside Kohli,” Jacks remarked.
On the opposing side, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill acknowledged the need for a better strategic approach, particularly in light of their inability to take wickets during the middle overs. Gill emphasized the importance of maximizing runs within the allotted 20 overs.
