Virat Kohli has etched his name in IPL history by becoming the first cricketer to play 250 matches in the tournament. This remarkable milestone was achieved during the 62nd match of the IPL, where Kohli’s team, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), faced off against Delhi Capitals.
Throughout this IPL season, Kohli has exhibited exceptional form, amassing a total of 661 runs so far. This impressive performance has been pivotal in keeping RCB in contention for a playoff spot.
Since the inception of the IPL in 2008, Virat Kohli has been a consistent presence in the RCB lineup, showcasing his talent season after season. His longevity and commitment to the game have propelled him into the elite club of players with 250 IPL appearances.
Before Kohli, the record for the most IPL matches played belonged to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who had featured in 263 matches. Following Dhoni is Rohit Sharma, the former captain of the Mumbai Indians, with 256 matches, while RCB’s wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik occupies the third spot with 255 IPL matches under his belt.
In his illustrious IPL career, Kohli has accumulated a staggering 7,906 runs for RCB, including eight centuries and 55 fifties. His batting prowess is evident from his strike rate 131.68 and an impressive average of 38.75. Notably, in the ongoing IPL season, Kohli has amassed 661 runs in just 13 matches, comprising one century and five half-centuries.
However, Kohli’s record-breaking match against Delhi Capitals saw him dismissed by Ishant Sharma, who had him caught behind by wicketkeeper Abhishek Porel after scoring a valuable 27 runs. Despite this setback, Kohli’s contribution to RCB’s campaign remains invaluable.
