The T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team received an overwhelming welcome from Mumbai cricket fans. Captain Rohit Sharma was deeply moved by the enthusiastic reception and dedicated the victory to the entire nation, stating, “This World Cup is not ours, but belongs to all the countrymen.”
The BCCI celebrated the team’s triumph with a grand ceremony at Wankhede Cricket Stadium, presenting the team with a cheque for Rs 125 crore. During the event, Captain Rohit Sharma became very emotional while speaking, and Hardik Pandya was visibly moved, shedding tears as he listened. Hardik, who had faced criticism and boos at Wankhede during the IPL, was now cheered by the same crowd, making the moment even more poignant.
Rohit Sharma praised Hardik Pandya’s crucial performance in the final match, particularly his calm and strategic dismissal of David Miller on the first ball of the last over, which played a significant role in India’s victory. Rohit highlighted Hardik’s ability to stay composed under pressure.
In his heartfelt speech, Rohit recounted every special moment of the final match, giving special mentions to Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav. He reiterated that the World Cup victory was for all the people of India, not just the team. “When Miller hit it high to Hardik, I thought it would be a six because of the strong wind. But all this is written in fate. Suryakumar Yadav’s catch at the end was incredible. I am proud of this entire team,” he said.
Rohit also emphasized that Hardik Pandya deserved the title and described the moment of meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi as special and honourable. He concluded by thanking the countrymen for their unwavering support.
