New Zealand’s shocking exit from the group stage of the T20 World Cup cricket tournament has led to a significant announcement from their leading bowler, Trent Boult. Disheartened by the team’s performance, Boult has signalled his retirement, stating that this will be his last World Cup.
Following New Zealand’s poor performance, star fast bowler Trent Boult declared that he will play his final T20 World Cup match on June 17. Boult clarified that this will be his last appearance in the T20 World Cup. New Zealand’s only victory in the tournament came against Uganda, where they won by 9 wickets, marking their first win in the T20 World Cup.
The New Zealand team suffered a heavy defeat against Afghanistan in their opening match. In a subsequent do-or-die match, they failed to chase down a target of 150 runs set by the West Indies. With Afghanistan and the West Indies advancing to the Super 8 with three consecutive wins each, New Zealand was eliminated from the T20 World Cup. In response to the team’s disappointing performance, Trent Boult announced after their third match that this would be his last T20 World Cup, and he would not be part of the New Zealand squad for future T20 World Cups.
After the win against Uganda, Boult said, “If I talk about myself, this will be my last T20 World Cup. That’s all I have to say.” This confirms that Boult’s final T20 World Cup match will be against Papua New Guinea on June 17.
Reflecting on New Zealand’s early exit, Boult commented, “We really didn’t want this start at all. It is very difficult to digest. We are all disappointed that we did not progress in the competition. But whenever you get a chance to play for your country, it’s a proud moment for you.”
