The Indian team is not expected to make a significant impact in the upcoming T20 World Cup cricket tournament, according to former England cricketer David Lloyd. He believes that other teams have thoroughly studied the Indian team’s strategies, rendering them less formidable.
India is placed in Group A for the T20 World Cup, which will be held in the United States and the West Indies starting June 2. The Indian team will kick off their campaign against Ireland on June 5. Since 2013, India has struggled in ICC tournaments and has not secured a title in a long time. Lloyd highlighted that while the Indian team often reaches the knockout stages, they fail to clinch the championship.
“India has now become a team of guesswork. I think the opposing teams should embrace the talent. India has good players, but they don’t take risks with the ball or the bat. Yes, this team is very good on its day, but the Indian team is not dangerous,” Lloyd said.
Ahead of the T20 World Cup, there was much discussion about the senior players in the Indian squad. Despite this, the selection committee has once again shown confidence in experienced players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, including them in the team. Young batsman Rinku Singh has been placed in the reserve team. In the 2022 T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma underperformed, scoring 116 runs in six innings with a strike rate of 106.42, with his only half-century coming against the Netherlands. Questions have also been raised about Kohli’s strike rate, although he silenced critics with a quicker pace later in the IPL season.
India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, but since then, they have not been able to capture the trophy again.
