Football in Brazil is more than just a sport; it is more Like a Religion. But the Brazilian President’s Controversial Decision might ruin football forever. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the President of Brazil has expressed his desire to have only the players playing in the Brazilian Serie A, or the Brasileirao, to play for the Brazilian National Team, also known as La Selecao.
“I have been arguing for some time that a Brazilian team should be called up with players who compete in the Brasileirao,” Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said. “I was with the president of the CBF in Brasília in recent days, [and] I said to him: ‘Why don’t you call up a team with only players from the Brazilian championship?’
“Those who are abroad are no better than those who are here. We don’t have a lot of people out there, we don’t have a Garrincha, a Romario… you have a lot of young people who, God willing, are successful, but they aren’t stars yet. You have good players here in Brazil, of the same quality.“
“And yesterday [the Chile vs. Brazil match] was something that God helped me with: the thing I’ve been talking about happened. The goals were scored by two players who play in Brazil, for Botafogo, so give the guys a chance here.”
This would honestly mean total catastrophe for Brazil since most of the best Brazilian players in the world go to Europe and play in the toughest leagues in the world, the likes of the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, etc. The list of La Selecao players who play outside of Brazil is huge and has immense quality.
Say the country of Brazil goes through with this decision of playing only Brasileirao players, the following players would never wear the Brazilian Yellow again:
Neymar Jr, Vinicius Jr, Raphinha, Eder Militao, Endrick, Savinho, Paqueta, Alisson, Ederson, Rodrygo, Richarlison, Marquinhos, Jesus, etc.
That quite literally is the whole Brazilian team right there! So there’s no doubt that if this Bullshit decision finds its way to be implemented, not only will FIFA denounce the decision and take harsh action, but Football will sadly die in Brazil.
