For the first time in his managerial career, Pep Guardiola has lost 4 matches in a row. This statistic is truly shocking for someone who has been a manager since 2008 and has managed big clubs all the time in Spain, then Germany and now England. But coming on the back of those 4 losses is not a slap on the wrists by the Manchester City board, but rather a contract renewal offer! Well yes, it is Pep Guardiola at the end of the day, but this blind trust that Man City has might prove to be very costly for them.
Manchester City under Pep Guardiola this season have been far from their best. That is partly due to the mini-injury crisis that they have going on with Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne both being injured. Still, the Spaniard’s tactics have been a big talking point as well. It’s not abnormal for a team so in sync up until a few seasons back seem so out of sync all of a sudden. We saw that happening with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool during his 6th season with the club. And it seems that the same is happening with Pep Guardiola during what is his 9th season in the English Premier League.
Moreover, Man City are facing some very heavy allegations and is in an ongoing court trial where they have 115 charges against them regarding Financial Fair Play matters. Pep Guardiola has come out and said that irrespective of what happens in the hearing he will stay at Manchester City. But that news should be taken with a grain of salt. Since there’s no way a coach of his status would manage a club in the EFL Championship.
This would have been a perfect time for Manchester City to start looking for a new coach, but instead, they have decided to stay persistent and renewed with Pep Guardiola at least until the end of the 2026/27 season. Will their decision be right or wrong only time will tell. Let us know your opinion in the comments below.
