When he is all said and done, there is minimal doubt in those who are involved in the World of Chess, that Magnus Carlsen will go down in history as the Greatest Chess Player of All Time. Well, there is a reason he is currently considered to be the King Of Chess. Recently the 5 time World Champion surprised the world yet again, this time not professionally, but personally. Magnus Carlsen tied the knot with Ella Victoria Malone in a ceremony packed with guests on Monday in Oslo, Norway.
The Norwegian couple exchanged their vows in Holmenkollen Chapel in the company of close friends and family ahead of a magnanimous reception at the stellar 5-star Grand Hotel in Oslo. The couple first publicly appeared together at the Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T Challenge in Germany in February 2024. Since then, Ella has started making more and more appearances with Magnus at his chess events. He was also present at the World Rapid and Blitz Championship in New York.
Now known as Ella Victoria Calrsen, the 26-year-old has an American Dad and a Norwegian Mom. She had previously talked about all the public attention she now garnered in an interview on Norwegian TV. Ella had expressed, “With all the cameras here, I do get a bit overwhelmed. Sometimes it’s difficult to come with him to these tournaments, but I do it anyway because I want to be a good girlfriend and support him, and it’s something I’m getting used to.”
Ella Victoria Talks About Magnus Carlsen
Following the news of their marriage, Ella Victoria made an appearance on a
Chess podcast called Sjakksnakk. Where she explained how his first introduction to Chess was through Queen’s Gambit. When she looked it up to see if it was based on a true story she came across Magnus Carlsen for the first time. “I expected some really cool woman to be the world’s best, and it was Magnus! I remember I thought, ‘Ah, he’s Norwegian!’ And that was that,” Ella said.
Talking about Magnus when they first met, Ella expressed, “He was really sweet when we first met. He was very shy and nervous. It was very endearing. He is incredibly intelligent. He remembered my birthday immediately, which really flattered me. But it turns out he has a really good memory, so I am not sure!”
Ella further opened up about what she likes about Magnus saying, “He is a breath of fresh air. I don’t think a lot of people know that. He’s just so authentic and unapologetically himself, and he inspires me, and I love that about him!”
