Stephan Fleming has emerged as a contender to become Rahul Dravid’s successor as the coach of the Indian Cricket Team. The former New Zealand captain is an exceptional coach. He’s been the head coach of 5-time IPL Champions Chennai Super Kings for 15 years now. His impressive man-management, tactical adeptness, and ability to create a positive environment have been lauded far and wide. Fleming’s success rate with CSK is truly extraordinary and he has all the acumen to become the coach of the ICT. The Former Kiwi captain is known particularly for his leadership programme which has developed several young Indian players.
The Case For Fleming
Despite Fleming being an obvious choice for the job, certain conditions make his hiring difficult. The BCCI has a policy for the new head coach will be in charge of all three formats, it remains to be seen whether Fleming applies for the job which will require him to be with the team for 10 months a year. One can say that senior players in the team are firmly backing Fleming’s hiring and want a coach with the pedigree to groom the next generation of the ICT into a set of World Class Players. If the BCCI is not able to lure Fleming, it would be interesting to see where it goes next. The BCCI is still hesitant to go for a similar approach as India doesn’t have two different sets of players for Tests and limited-overs formats.
Hunt For A Head Coach
Through reports from several news outlets, no concrete talks have been held between Fleming and the BCCI. There is some reluctance to be on the road for 10 months. The interest in the CSK head coach is certainly not a surprise. Many veteran Indian players are big fans of the Kiwi. Admirers of Fleming claim his tactical knowledge is unparalleled. With Rahul Dravid’s contract expiring after the T20 World Cup, the hiring process for the job will truly be interesting
