Former Indian Test player Yuvraj Singh has expressed his reaction that the decision to take away the captaincy of Mumbai Indians from Rohit Sharma was very big.
In the IPL season, Mumbai Indians will begin their campaign against Gujarat Titans on March 24. Hardik Pandya will lead Mumbai while Shubman Gill will lead Gujarat. Rohit Sharma, who won the tournament five times for Mumbai, will be seen playing as a batsman this time. On this decision of the team management, Yuvraj Singh said, ‘After Hardik’s comeback, Rohit should have been kept as captain for one more season. First, all-rounder Hardik should have been made the vice-captain of the team.’
Yuvraj Singh objected to this decision. Speaking to Star Sports, Yuvraj Singh said, ‘Rohit Sharma has won 5 IPL titles as a captain. It was a big decision to remove him from the captaincy. But if you bring any player in the team, even if Hardik comes in…Rohit Sharma should be given the captaincy for one more season..I would have made Hardik the vice-captain of the team and see how the whole franchise is doing.”
Yuvraj added, ‘But if I look at it from the franchisee’s point of view, they are thinking about the future. But if Rohit is India’s captain and is playing well, it’s a big decision. So I guess everyone has their own opinion. The franchisee will take a proper view considering its future. So I think that was his thinking. Hope he does better.’
