Shooter Swapnil Kusale, who ended Maharashtra’s 72-year medal drought by winning a bronze medal in the Paris Olympics, has expressed his determination to change the color of the medal in the upcoming Olympics. The dream that Swapnil Kusale has been living for the past 12 years has come true in the form of an Olympic medal.
After this medal, he was also promoted by the Railways and the Maharashtra government also announced a reward of Rs.1 crore. The Govt said, ‘Of course, he has become an Olympic medalist, but there will be no change in him. He will remain the same today, as he was yesterday. Instead, this medal will motivate him to work harder in shooting. So that he can be eligible to change the color of this medal in the next Olympics.’
He was being awarded the medal, his eyes were fixed on the Indians present and the tricolor. Swapnil said ‘This medal belongs to India and is dedicated to the country.’ His father Suresh Mahadev Kusale also struggled a lot during this shooting journey of the shooter. Swapnil also says that his parents have given a lot for him. Now it’s my turn to do it for them. He says that he will try to solve all their problems.
Swapnil Kusale went emotional after winning the medal
He spoke to his parents and became very emotional. I also got emotional talking to him. Before the match, Kusale said that before the final match, he was in trouble with his kneeling position. His intention was not right. He was disturbed. He discussed this with coach Deepali Deshpande. Finally found out there was a problem with his kneeling pads.
This pad was compressed during the journey. So his knee could not fit properly on this pad. So his condition was getting worse. That made a difference in scoring. The trainer had him stuff the pad with tissue paper and then corrected the position. Had this not happened, he would have faced a lot of trouble in this match.
