Strict action against Achinta for being caught going to women’s hostel

The Indian Weightlifting Federation has taken strict action against Commonwealth gold medalist Achinta Shewli. So now Achinta’s dream of representing India in the Paris Olympics has ended. Star player Achinta was found while going to the women’s hostel and strict action was taken against him.

Weightlifter Achinta Shewli won the gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Now, due to this case, Achinta Shiuli has been kicked out of the camp organized for the preparation of the Paris Olympics.

Achinta Sheuli was caught while entering the NIS women’s hostel in Patiala. After that, disciplinary action has been taken against him. An official of the Weightlifting Federation of India said, ‘Such indiscipline will not be tolerated at all. Achinta was asked to leave the camp immediately.’ So Achinta’s hopes of qualifying for the Paris Olympics have ended. Achinta will also miss this month’s World Cup in Phuket, Thailand. The competition was mandatory for Paris Olympic qualification.

This incident happened on Thursday night. Achinta, a 22-year-old weightlifter, was caught by security personnel and videotaped. Sports Authority of India (SAI) and NIS Patiala Executive Director Vineet Kumar were immediately informed about this. Sai did not set up an investigation committee as there was video evidence.

Patiala has separate hostels for boys and girls. Presently women boxers, athletes and wrestlers are in NIS Patiala. Earlier, Commonwealth and Youth Olympic champion Jeremy Lalrinunga was also kicked out of the national camp by the weightlifting federation for indiscipline.

Achinta Shiuli is currently ranked 27th in the Olympic qualification race and could have made it to the Paris Olympics through the subcontinental quota. So far, Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Mirabai Chanu (49 kg) and Rashtkul silver medalist Bindiarani Devi are in the running for the Paris Olympics. Both of them are going to play this tournament in Phuket.

Achinta Sheuli hails from West Bengal. In 2021, he won a silver medal in the 73 kg category of the Junior World Weightlifting Championship held in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). Achinta then earned a ticket to Birmingham in December 2021 by winning a gold medal in the 73 kg weight category of the Commonwealth Championships. In that competition, Achinta lifted a total weight of 316 kg and won the gold medal. Achinta was also successful in winning the gold medal in the 2019 Commonwealth Games.
