“Still a Lot of Cricket Left in Me,” Says Rohit Sharma

Amidst ongoing discussions about Indian captain Rohit Sharma‘s potential retirement from international cricket following the upcoming T20 World Cup, Rohit himself has clarified that he has no plans to retire anytime soon.

With the T20 World Cup approaching, speculation about Rohit Sharma retiring, especially from the T20 format, has been intensifying. At 37 years old, many have suggested that he should consider retirement due to his age. However, Rohit has reassured his fans by stating he intends to continue playing. In 2021, Rohit succeeded Virat Kohli as the captain of the Indian team across all three formats. He now affirms that he still has several years of cricket left in him.

In an interview with Dubai Eye 103.8, Rohit Sharma said, “The journey of 17 years in cricket has been great. I want to play for a few more years and make my mark in the world of cricket. There is no greater pride than being the captain of my country. I never thought that I might become a captain one day. But people say good things happen to good people.”

Emphasizing the importance of team success over personal achievements, Rohit Sharma added, “When I took over as the captain of the Indian team, I wanted everyone to think the same way and play the team game the same way. I’m not looking to set a personal record. What matters is what 11 players can do together to win the trophy.”

Under Rohit’s leadership, India has faced some setbacks in major tournaments. They lost the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final to England by 10 wickets, the final of the 2021-2023 World Test Championship to Australia by 209 runs, and the final of the 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup to Australia by 6 wickets. Despite these challenges, Rohit Sharma remains determined to lead India to victory in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
