Indian star table tennis player Sreeja Akula has made history with her outstanding performance by becoming the first Indian to win the singles title at the World Table Tennis Championships.
Sreeja Akula, who has qualified for the Paris Olympics, defeated China’s Ding Yiji 4-1 in the final. She has won a total of two gold medals in this event.
In the women’s singles final, Akula started off poorly, losing the first game 10-12 to her Chinese opponent. However, she staged a remarkable comeback to win the next four games 11-9, 11-6, 11-8, and 11-6, securing the gold medal. India concluded its campaign with three gold and one silver medal.
Akula also clinched a gold medal in women’s doubles alongside Archana Kamath by defeating fellow Indians Diya Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade 3-0 (11-9, 11-6, 12-10). Additionally, India won gold in men’s doubles, with Harmeet Desai and Manav Thakkar overcoming Aziz Solanke and Olajide Omotayo 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-8).
