In a surprising turn of events, the title of the ‘Sixer King’ in international cricket now belongs to Muhammad Wasim of the United Arab Emirates, surpassing the renowned Indian captain Rohit Sharma.
Wasim not only broke Sharma’s previous record but achieved an unprecedented milestone, becoming the first player to smash 100 or more sixes in a single year in international cricket.
The record, previously held by Rohit Sharma with 80 sixes in a year, was surpassed by Muhammad Wasim in 2023. Throughout the year, Wasim displayed his aggressive batting prowess in both T20 and ODI formats.
In contrast, Rohit Sharma, who hit 80 sixes, secured the second position. Worth noting is that Rohit Sharma exclusively participated in ODI and Test cricket during 2023, abstaining from T20Is.
While individual records highlight remarkable performances, some argue that the emphasis should be on team achievements to truly measure a player’s impact on the game.
