Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal can replace Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in T20Is

India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after beating South Africa in the final. They ended their 11-year drought of winning trophies. After the massive win two of the cricketing greats Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma called it an end in the T20I format. The former announced it first while he was in the post-match presentation collecting his Man of the Match trophy. Later the captain also disclosed his decision in the press conference.

Both the batters over the years have been the face of the nation across formats. Despite calling an end to the shortest format of the game they will be continuing to perform for the Men in Blue in the Test and ODI format. The fans were in shock after the announcements. They have been the match winners for the side and have respected each other on and off the field. Rohit and Kohli opened the innings in the recently concluded World Cup.

The upcoming generation of Indian cricket will have huge shoes to fill as the Indian team India captain has an impressive record with the bat and is the leading run-scorer with 4231 runs, the star batter Virat Kohli finished second in the list with 4188 runs in the shortest format. The new generation of the Men in Blue will be taking over from the Zimbabwe tour.

Is Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal next face in T20Is for India?

Shubman Gill will be leading the charge for the first time in the shortest format. He has been one of the most promising upcoming stars in Indian cricket and he will be the one who could cut the next T20 World Cup squad as he has been a regular in the ODI and Test format. The Gujarat Titans skipper is yet to make his mark in the T20Is despite scoring a hundred he needs to step up on bigger occasions for the side.

Yashasvi Jaiswal will be another cricketer who is looking to get his chances at bigger stages. The Southpaw has been a consistent opener in the red ball format and has played some of the T20Is bilateral series as well. Despite getting in the 15-man side the explosive opener could not make it through to the playing 11. Now Rohit and Kohli have retired he will be the first choice to open the innings for India.
