A team of climbers from Giripremi Mountaineering Institute in Pune is gearing up to climb the 6,310m high Mount Meru in the Gangotri Himalayas of Uttarakhand.
A team of climbers including Vivek Shivde, Ganesh More, Dr Sumit Mandala, Mingma Sherpa, Varun Bhagwat, Nikunj Shah and Ronak Singh, led by the expedition leader and senior climber Umesh Zirpe, has left for the expedition to make the first attempt to climb this peak from the east ridge from India.
The flag presentation ceremony of this team was held in the evening at Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute. Renowned industrialist and Chairman of Haware Group Dr Suresh Howre, as well as the valiant officer of the Indian Army who played a significant role in the Kargil War, Lieut. Jan. The tricolour flag of India was presented to the team by Rajendra Nimbhorkar (Retd.).
On this occasion, Dr Suresh Hawre said, “Climbing is such an adventure sport that everyone who participates in it becomes a perfect person. Along with this, the most important thing is that when the body is tired but the mind is not ready to give up and in such a situation when the climber successfully reaches the peak, the strength of the mind comes and it continues to inspire us throughout our life to reach the Everest of our lives Best wishes to the Meru campaign team.“
Lt. Gen. Rajendra Nimbhorkar also recounted the thrilling experiences of his 40 years in the army and praised the brave Meru team for promoting the adventure sport of mountaineering. He was particularly proud that the team of Giripremi Sanstha was putting in effort for such a tough expedition like Meru and wished him all the best for the further progress of the expedition. Along with this, Rahul Narute, Managing Director of Asian Machine Tool Corporation also wished for the campaign.
The program was moderated by Abhay Khedkar. On this occasion, Giripremi founder president Usha Prabha Page, founder member Anand Palande, organization president Jayant Tulpule, Giripremi director Chandan Chavan, Everest veteran Bhushan Hershey, mountaineers of the organization and many adventure lovers were present.
