Saying “No Men Left In Bollywood” Doesn’t Prove Ajay Devgn’s Masculinity

Ajay Devgn is currently wrapping up celebrating the huge success of Singham Again. The movie directed by Rohit Shetty and featuring the biggest star cast—Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Tiger Shroff, and Deepika Padukone—has taken the box office by storm. Ajay Devgn, who reprised the role of Police Officer Bajiroa, is hitting the entire Bollywood scene with a blast. Ajay Devgn’s movie has become the second highest-grossing movie of 2024 surpassing Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter.

Every time Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty have collaborated, it has been a blockbuster and this time Singham Again proved with the same success. Whether Golmaal or Singham there’s no better duo of actor and director in the industry than these two. Ajay Devgn has built this persona of a serious actor with performances like Shivaay and Tanhaji in his career. The actor recently commented on Bollywood’s current scenario of actors, which has turned into a controversy.

The actor stated that there are no “Men” left in Bollywood and only “Boys”. What the actor meant by this was that in the current generation of actors, there are no men as in no actors who have such a serious personality to be a leader. The actor stated-“In today’s world, you don’t see a dominating male personality. All are boys; you don’t see men-men. In the earlier generation, we saw men—even in my generation, from Jackie Shroff, Amitabh Bachchan, they were all men.” “When Akshay Kumar was thrashing ten people Sunny Deol was pulling out a hand pump, we would clap because we believed they could do it. In today’s generation, we don’t feel that anyone could actually do that.” Ajay stated that he wasn’t speaking about a particular person but a whole generation of actors, stating that ‘there’s been a change in upbringing’ that brought about a change in ‘attitude and approach towards life’.

What did he mean by this? How can you give a statement like that when you are at that level? Saying that there are no men left is kind of misogynistic. Doing soft and feminist roles doesn’t mean you are not manly. We live in a society where such roles are appreciated by the audience. Doing movies like Singham, doesn’t prove you are the only masculine energy reflecting on Bollywood.
