The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 retention strategies have been started by the franchises. Ahead of the mega auction next year all the franchises will be allowed to make four retentions. There are talks of more retentions before the auction takes place. The 2024 edition was exciting for the fans some records were being broken and the batters had many advantages in the previous edition.
However, ahead of the forthcoming season, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul met team owner Sanjiv Goenka on Monday. The meeting was held at the franchise’s office in Kolkata. As per reports by Cricbuzz, the meeting went on for an hour. During the last edition, the two were involved in a heated exchange of words. The owner came inside the ground following LSG’s 10-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2024. There were rumours of him leaving the franchise after the incident.
This was their first formal meeting after the chaotic incident. There are no specific details about the matter that has been discussed in the meeting. As per the reports, the meeting was for the possible retention of Rahul as well as team combinations. At the moment, it is unclear how many players a team can retain. Another factor that could be important in terms of player retention is the Right to Match (RTM) option.
KL Rahul will return to RCB
Irrespective of that, Rahul is reportedly set to go back to his former franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). There are talks but no official confirmation for the same has been released by the franchise or the player himself. RCB might release Faf du Plessis for the forthcoming season and they would need a captain for that. No one will be better than their hometown boy KL Rahul who once played for the franchise.
The wicket-keeper batter has been part of LSG for three seasons qualifying for the knockouts twice. Will Mr.Goenka use his business politics to retain the 32-year-old? The RPSG group owner is known for his business tactics and can offer monetary power to retain Rahul in the franchise despite their argument in the last edition. It will be very interesting to see whether the player remains or leaves the franchise.
