The Lucknow Super Giants delivered an emphatic performance, securing a commanding eight-wicket victory over the defending champions, the Chennai Super Kings. Reflecting on the loss, Chennai’s captain Ruturaj Gaikwad lamented his team’s inability to sustain the run rate after the power play, resulting in a shortfall of 10-15 runs that ultimately led to their defeat.
In pursuit of a target of 177 runs, the Supergiants chased down the total with ease, finishing at 180 for two with six balls remaining. Captain Lokesh Rahul led from the front with a stellar knock of 82 runs, ably supported by Quinton de Kock, who contributed 54 runs to the partnership. Together, they forged a formidable opening stand of 134 runs.

Speaking after the match, Ruturaj Gaikwad acknowledged the team’s strong finish to the innings but expressed disappointment over the inability to accelerate the scoring rate after the power play. He noted the challenges of batting conditions but highlighted the advantage of the impact player rule, which allows for an extra batsman. Gaikwad suggested that with the onset of dew, a total of 180-190 runs could have been competitive.
Despite the setback, Gaikwad remained optimistic, recognizing the areas for improvement as the team looks ahead to their next fixtures.
