Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma recently revealed his unsuccessful attempt to keep Rahul Dravid as the head coach. Rohit expressed his sentiments about Dravid’s departure, highlighting the emotional connection he has with his former captain.
In a press conference, Rohit Sharma shared his efforts to convince Dravid to continue as head coach. “I tried to persuade him to stay as coach, but he was not willing. Dravid was my first international captain and a great role model. It’s hard for me to see him leave the Indian team,” Rohit said.
Getting emotional, Rohit reminisced about his early days under Dravid’s leadership. “Obviously, there are many responsibilities he has to handle. Personally, I cherished my time with him,” Rohit reflected.
Rohit also recalled his international debut under Dravid’s captaincy. “I started my international career under Rahul’s leadership. He was my first international captain when I debuted against Ireland. When I joined the Test team, I had the chance to observe his play closely. He is an excellent role model for all of us. We have watched him play as we grew up and are well aware of his achievements as a player. We truly appreciate his contributions to the team over the years,” Rohit added.
Dravid’s impact on Indian cricket, both as a player and coach, has been profound, and his departure marks the end of an era for the team. Rohit’s heartfelt words underscore the respect and admiration Dravid commands within the Indian cricketing fraternity.
