Rishabh Pant Is Setting The Stage For A High-Stakes IPL 2025

Rishabh Pant is one of the finest wicket-keeper batters for India. The left-handed explosive batter has once again proved his worth in the middle order for the Men in Blue. He since coming back from the injury has been in exceptional form for the side. The go-to batter in the test currently will be in action in the forthcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. However, before that, a controversy struck him.

The Southpaw was not retained by his franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. The franchise opted to stick with Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abhishek Porel, thereby spending 43.75 crore INR on them. Amidst the chaos and speculations, Pant responded to a post by one of the broadcasters of the Indian Premier League.

Sunil Gavaskar attempted to explain why Delhi did not keep their captain ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction. The Capitals did not pay any of its players the maximum cap of Rs 18 crore. In the video, Gavaskar hinted that the Delhi Capitals and Rishabh Pant may have clashed on the wicketkeeper-batter’s retention price. He also anticipated that the Capitals would try to repurchase Pant during the big auction on November 24 and 25.

Rishabh Pant rebukes Sunil Gavaskar

Rishabh Pant was selected by the Delhi Capitals immediately following his participation in India’s U19 World Cup in 2016. Pant had 111 appearances for the Capitals, scoring 3284 runs at an average of 35. Despite his achievements in red-ball cricket, Pant has struggled to live up to the expectations in T20s, particularly in the IPL. However, he received plenty of support from the Ponting-led management.

Pant was selected captain upon his return from a year-long injury layoff. The Delhi Capitals are seeking a change after appointing a new-looking coaching staff. The 27-year-old said, “My retention wasn’t about the money for sure that I can say. If go to the auction. will I be sold or not and for how much ??”
