Real Madrid’s Galacticos Era on the Verge of Failing Before It Has Even Started

Real Madrid has been known to sign big-name players in the past and present an absolutely star-studded lineup on the pitch. Over the last 5-6 years Real Madrid has very successfully managed to find replacements in all positions for their old guard like Kroos, Modric, Benzema, Bale, etc. With the ‘Galacticos’ strategy in full effect, Los Blancos have a plethora of young big-name players waiting to represent the storied club next season. Such is the high level of competition in the squad at this moment, that many players who would be guaranteed starters on other teams will be finding themselves on the bench throughout the season.

With the signing of Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid’s project is undoubtedly the biggest in the world as of now. Endrick, Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler, Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, and Kylian Mbappe will be sharing attacking responsibilities for Madrid, some more often than others. But there is a slight problem with most of these players. That being, only one of these 6 players has been performing well for their countries in the ongoing continental championships, Euros and the Copa America.

Arda Guler has been phenomenal for Turkey at such a young age of just 19 and has been an integral part of Turkey’s run into the European Championship Quarterfinals. He even scored a wondergoal against Turkey’s group stage match against Georgia along with two assists in the tournament.

Failures of Future Galacticos

Kylian Mbappe became officially the least proficient shooter at the Euros after having 24 total shots in the whole tournament without even scoring one of them. His only goal at the tournament came from the Penalty spot. In his semifinal loss against Spain, he did deliver an assist and ended up being played outplayed by a 16-year-old’s sheer class. Such were his performances that Mbappe admitted saying, “My Euros was a failure.”

The England number “10” Jude Bellingham does find himself in Berlin to play the Euros finals, but he does so at the end of what was a very disappointing campaign for him personally. With 2 goals for England one in the knockout game while the second one being a spectacular bicycle kick in the Round of 16. But apart from these two moments he has ghosted most of the games often being England’s most wasteful player up top.

The Brazillian Trio of Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo and Endrick all played horribly for Brazil and except for a brace against Paraguay which came from two tap-in goals, the trio did nothing special. Endrick especially, had the most disgraceful performance for Brazil in the Quarterfinals against Uruguay when he completed only 1 pass in the entire 90 minutes. What’s worse is that the single pass he did complete was the one he made to kick off the game. Rodrygo and Vini with all their talent too couldn’t inspire Brazil to much as they were sent home packing by Uruguay in the Quarterfinals.
