Real Madrid In Familiar Territory After The first Leg Draw In Bavaria

Real Madrid’s Champions League aspirations are looking brighter after the first-leg draw to Bayern Munich. Despite having a home advantage, the German side were not able to topple their European rivals and only managed to end the game in a 2-2 draw. The next fixture will now be played at the Santiago Bernabeu, which is a tough place for any opponent to play in a European knockout game.

The Los Blancos opened the scoring through a Vinicus Jr goal. He met the through ball made by Toni Kroos and put it in the back of the net to give Real Madrid a one-goal advantage in the first half. However, Bayern Munich had a lot of fight left in them and they proved it through a Leroy Sane goal in the 53rd minute. Riding high on confidence, Bayern continued to pose more threat to Real and eventually won a penalty in the 56th minute.

It was once again Jamal Musiala who proved to be the catalyst as his silky skill led to Lucas Vazquez putting a needless leg out. Harry Kane send Real Madrid’s keeper to the wrong side and put the home team 2-1 ahead. With still a lot of time left, the Los Blancos were desperate to turn things around. They tried to create chances but were unable to find the back of the net. However, there was another twist in the tale as Bayern’s Min-Jae Kim got too close to Rodrygo and pulled him down, which led to a penalty. Vinicius Jr showed his composure and took a brilliant spot kick to equalize for the visitors.

Real Madrid now have the advantage going into the second leg

The second leg between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich will be played on May 8. The game will be played at the Santiago Bernabeu, which has been a fortress for Real this season. They have not lost a single game at the iconic stadium throughout this campaign. Bayern on the other hand, have not been very good in away games this year. They have lost four away games in the Bundesliga and also lost their first leg of the UCL Round of 16 to Lazio in Italy.

Despite being plagued with injuries, Real Madrid have put in a solid display this season. This can be credited to the commitment of the players as every one of them has done their part well. Going up against Bayern at the Allianz Arena is never easy, but the Los Blancos did a great job in stealing a draw away from home. They will now be confident going into the second leg as they have had immense success against the Bavarians in the knockouts.
