In a remarkable feat, Indian leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has claimed the coveted title of World No. 1 T20 bowler, surpassing Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan. This accolade follows Bishnoi’s stellar performance in the 5-match T20I series against Australia, where he leaped from fifth to first place in the ICC T20 bowler rankings.
Joining the esteemed club of top-performing Indian bowlers, Ravi Bishnoi’s rise echoes the impressive standings of Jasprit Bumrah, who holds a position in the top 10 T20 bowlers. The overall dominance of Indian players in the T20 format is further highlighted by Suryakumar Yadav retaining his top position in the batsmen’s rankings.
Bishnoi’s surge to the pinnacle involved a notable 34-point increase, with a total of 699 rating points, placing him 7 points ahead of Rashid Khan, who had held the top spot since March 2023. The leg-spinner showcased his prowess by claiming 9 wickets in the series against Australia, consistently delivering impactful performances.
In addition to Bishnoi’s triumph, emerging talents Yashasvi Jaiswal and Akshar Patel have surged 16 places each in the ICC rankings, contributing to India’s strong representation. Rashid Khan, Adil Rashid, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Maheesh Theekshana are among the bowlers who have secured notable positions in the rankings.
Ravi Bishnoi’s standout performance in the T20 series against Australia, where he consistently took wickets in the opening over, solidifies his status as a rising star in the cricketing world. Since making his T20 debut in February 2022, Bishnoi has amassed an impressive total of 34 wickets in 21 matches.
Meanwhile, in the Test rankings, Ashwin maintains his stronghold at the top, while ODI rankings see India’s Shubman Gill and South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj leading the batting and bowling charts, respectively.
