Alex Pereira did not fail to grab any headlines yet again after his mammoth victory over challenger Khalil Rountree at UFC 307. ‘Poatan’ knocked out ‘The War Horse’ in Round 4 of their title fight on Sunday after brutalizing Rountree for most of the second half of the fight. Khalil Rountree stood his ground but couldn’t stand the wrath of Alex Pereira and eventually succumbed.
Now, with 3 Title Defenses under 175 days in the UFC, breaking Ronda Rousey’s previous UFC record of 189 days, Alex Pereira finds himself at the pinnacle of the UFC. It seems unlikely that anyone at his weight class of 205lbs could displace the apex predator of the Light Heavyweight division from the top of the food chain. Regardless of his unfathomable ruthlessness against the Light Heavyweights in the UFC, Khalil Rountree for the first two rounds actually made Alex Pereira wobble a bit. While it was nothing in the grand scheme of things, Khalil Rountree maybe after a bounce-back win could go up against Alex Pereira yet again to give fans the rematch they surely want.

The Interim Heavyweight Champion of the UFC is patiently waiting for his chance to fight Jon Jones who has been out of the game for more than a year with the UFC Championship still wrapped around his waist. Irrespective of the result of the fight between ‘Bones’ and Stipe, if the former decides not to retire, and decides to fight ‘Poatan’ or vice-a-versa, we could see a bout that could prove to be a deciding factor in the UFC GOAT argument for years to come. While ‘Poatan’ vs ‘Bones’ is the dream fight for many UFC fans including Conor McGregor right now, it is very unlikely to happen.
