In a tennis spectacle at the MSLTA $25,000 Men’s ITF Tennis Championship 2023 in Mumbai, Ramkumar Ramanathan, a force on the Indian Davis Cup team, achieved a stunning double victory. The 29-year-old, seeded third, exhibited masterful control against unseeded Siddharth Vishwakarma in an all-Indian men’s singles final.
Ramkumar, hailing from Tamil Nadu and ranked 642 on the ATP list, breezed to a commanding 6-0, 6-4 triumph in under an hour. This marked his second title in five weeks, following his earlier ITF victory at Davangere. The previous day, Ramkumar, alongside partner Purva Raja, secured the men’s doubles title.
Bharat Oza, President of MSLTA, presented Ramkumar with the winner’s prize of $4375 and 25 ATP points, adding to his impressive tally. Meanwhile, Vishwakarma, displaying resilience despite the loss, received the runner-up prize of $2210 and 16 ATP points.
Ramkumar’s strategic serves and impeccable returns left little room for Vishwakarma’s counterplay. Despite occasional flashes of brilliance from Vishwakarma, the consistent performance by Ramkumar proved too formidable.
The MSLTA championship showcased not only the prowess of Ramkumar but also the competitive spirit of Indian tennis. With this triumph, Ramkumar continues to make waves on the international stage, leaving tennis enthusiasts eagerly anticipating his future performances.
