Rahul Dravid used nepotism power to earn his son’s place in U-19 squad

Rahul Dravid has been an imminent name in the Indian cricket. The former India captain and coach has innumerable records beside his name during his playing days. During his coaching stint as well he has won the T20 World Cup 2024 with the nation and qualified for the ODI World Cup 2023 final, losing to Australia. The Wall of Cricket has left the team after the T20 World Cup 2024 win. 

The former NCA chief retired back in 2012 from international cricket. Now it’s time for his young generation to shine in Indian cricket. His son Samit Dravid has been selected for the U-19 team. The Men in Blue side will take on Australia U-19 in three 50-over games and two four-day matches. The one-day will be played in will be played in Puducherry, while the four-day games will be held in Chennai. 

Samit has impressed in the ongoing Maharaja T20 KSCA tournament. He has been featuring for the Mysore Warriors. The youngster has scored 82 runs in seven outings with 33 being his highest individual score. He is a middle-order batter and also bowls medium pace. The 18-year-old had a decent outing last year in the Vinoo Mankad and Cooch Behar tournaments. He made 362 runs and took 16 wickets in eight matches during Karnataka’s title-winning campaign. Then he had a stress fracture. 

Samit Dravid needs to fill in big shoes

Is Samit Dravid really special talent or playing just because of his father’s name? There is a lot of pressure behind that surname, as Samit’s father has been a legend of Indian cricket. Coming from such a stature he always had the eyes on him to fill in the big shoes of his father. However, he has been doing good in the U-19 circuit. Against Australia, he will be a watchful player and needs to perform at his best to cement his place in the team.

Rahul’s younger son is also a cricketer as Anvay is the captain of the U-16 captain of the Karnataka team. Both of the younger Dravid has big tasks ahead in their career to shine and become as great as their father was in his playing days.
