Amidst the ongoing T20I series against Australia, Rahul Dravid, the esteemed coach of Team India, received a contract extension from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Dravid, along with the entire support staff, including Vikram Rathore, Paras Mhambare, and T Dilip, will continue their roles. The extension comes ahead of Team India’s upcoming tour to South Africa, scheduled for next month.
Dravid, who took over as coach after the 2023 World Cup, led the team to the finals of both the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup. Despite falling short against Australia in both finals, the BCCI acknowledged Dravid’s crucial role in shaping the team’s success.
The BCCI, in a tweet, expressed gratitude to Dravid for his contributions and stated that his vision, hard work, and determination have been instrumental in Team India’s achievements. The contract extension reflects the board’s confidence in Dravid’s leadership, aiming to build on the team’s current structure.
President Roger Binny and Secretary Jai Shah praised Dravid’s commitment, with Binny stating, “It’s a matter of mutual respect,” and Shah emphasizing Dravid’s role in creating a strong foundation for the team’s growth.
Rahul Dravid, reflecting on the extension, mentioned the memorable two years with Team India, acknowledging the support through ups and downs. He expressed pride in the team’s established culture and thanked the BCCI for trusting and supporting his work.
With the South Africa tour on the horizon, the extension ensures continuity in the coaching staff. Dravid’s leadership will be pivotal as the team faces new challenges post the World Cup.
