Rahul Dravid Bids Farewell to the Indian Team After Winning the World Cup

Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid bids farewell after becoming the T20 World Champion. This was Dravid’s last tournament as head coach, marking the end of his illustrious career with a golden finish in the final match.

Rahul Dravid took on the role of head coach of the Indian team in November 2021, having previously coached the Under-19 Indian team. Under his leadership, new talents like Arshdeep Singh and Shubman Gill emerged. Much like his predecessor Ravi Shastri, Dravid played a crucial role in building a strong Indian team. His tenure concluded after the T20 World Cup, with Dravid bidding goodbye to his role after leading India to a World Cup victory.

Dravid’s Golden Era

Under Rahul Dravid’s coaching, India played 56 ODIs, winning 41 of them. In T20 matches, India secured 48 victories out of 69. Over the past three years, the team lost only one Test series, winning five and drawing two. India also won the Asia Cup in 2023, defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final under Rohit Sharma’s leadership. One of the major highlights of Dravid’s coaching career is that in 2024, India topped the rankings in all three formats of the game.

India reached the finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup, with Rohit Sharma and his team winning all 10 matches in the group stage. In the final match against Australia in Ahmedabad, India posted a score of 240 runs while batting first, which Australia chased down with six wickets to spare. This defeat leaves a blemish on Rahul Dravid’s coaching career. Despite several ICC tournament losses under Dravid’s leadership, the 2024 T20 World Cup victory serves to wash away many of those disappointments.
