Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed confidence that the Indian athletes participating in the Paris Olympics will make the country proud and fulfill the expectations of 140 crore people. India is sending a contingent of around 120 athletes to the Paris Olympics and they are hoping to do better than the Tokyo Olympics this time.
India won seven medals at the Tokyo Olympics, including Neeraj Chopra‘s gold medal in javelin. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Sports Raksha Khadse, and Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha were accompanied by a contingent of Indian athletes. The PM also shared photos of himself with the players and support staff, including badminton coach Pullela Gopichand and shooting director Pierre Beauchamp, among others.
Modi had a virtual conversation with Neeraj Chopra, boxer Nikhat Zareen, and two-time Olympic medalist badminton player PV Sindhu. Earlier in the day the PM also welcomed the T20 World Cup 2024 champions and had a memorable conversation with the members of the T20 World Cup-winning team, discussing their journey at the recently-concluded ICC event in the USA and the Caribbean.
The Prime Minister posted on ‘X’ after meeting a large contingent of Paris-bound athletes saying, “Interacted with our contingent heading to Paris for the Olympics. I am confident our athletes will give their best and make India proud. Their life journeys and success give hope to 140 crore Indians.”
Neeraj Chopra also assured that his training is going well as he said in the virtual meeting with the PM, “Sir, my training is going as planned. I missed a few tournaments due to a recurring injury, but right now, I am feeling much better. We have just under a month to get the final preparations done.”
