Are we still not firm on what’s newsworthy? Is someone tripping down the stairs newsworthy or someone getting papped with a new bag is newsworthy? Let me tell you one thing, none of this is newsworthy. Paparazzi rubbing himself in the lives of celebrities is okay but the public has no interest in knowing every small detail of their lives. And sometimes the media turn even more ugly when they release some unnecessary clips of a celebrity even though they’ve been asked not to.
One recent incident was what happened at Divya Agarwal’s party. Divya’s birthday bash was supposed to be a glamorous and fun red carpet party where afterward the candids and the outfits of the celebrities would be the talk of the town. But unfortunately, that’s not what happened. The event took an ugly turn when Poonam Pandey faced a minor wardrobe malfunction. When Divya Agarwal jokingly lifted Poonam Pandey on the red carpet, her pants came up showing a little part of her buttocks. And the first reaction from the media was instead of covering their cameras like they ethically should, they shouted “Dikha Gaya, Dikh Gaya”. Seriously?
Do they have no sense of morality? What’s even more disgusting was that the video came out and went viral all over social media even when Poonam Panday asked the paps not to release the footage. Credits to Poonam for keeping it all chill. The worst part is, why are we still making someone’s fashion slip a BREAKING NEWS? Incidents like this are what raise concerns over the media’s obsession with sensationalism over substance. We are so fascinated by the Western media and Hollywood world but we never try to become like them. This reminds me of the event where Selena Gomez fell and the flashing of the cameras immediately stopped. This is what a true celebrity and media relationship looks like. When will the media landscape start changing itself?
