It’s no secret that Manchester City have been lately playing like they belong to go back to the 2nd and lower tiers of English Football. It’s not that their form is bad, but that it is absolutely abysmal. And for a club that won everything there was to win in football just 2 seasons ago is unheard of. On top of their fall from grace, the once heralded greatest in the Premier League, Pep Guardiola cannot find a way back for his side.
The Blue side of Manchester has won only a single game in their last 12 outings in all competitions. And drawn other 3 fixtures. This means that they have lost a whopping 8 games in the last 12, which is truly disappointing for a side being coached by Pep Guardiola. But what and how has the Manchester City boss responded to all these losses and sad performances?
Pep Guardiola Makes Injury Excuses
Talking to Sky Sports PL ahead of their last fixture of 2024 against Leicester City, Pep Guardiola expressed how he feels. The Man City boss stated, “The greatest test when things are going badly. The greatest test that I’ve done. We will come back and that’s what already happened. But that makes me remember how good was the past. That’s the truth. The main, main reason is having seven, eight important injured players. And after every three days, it’s more difficult”
After spending 8 seasons with the Manchester Club, Pep Guardiola has assembled an incredible squad complete with squad depth. Infact, more often than not he has prided himself over the fact that City has perhaps one of the if not the most complete squads in all of Europe with plenty of options on the bench to substitute in for those who constitute the playing XI. Hence, it is a surprise that the Spaniard is blaming injuries and squad depth for the poor performances this season.
Has Pep Guardiola lost his managerial edge? Even with the squad currently at his disposal, he can surely challenge for all titles. But still, he is busy making excuses.
