Paris Olympics 2024: Indian Archers fails to deliver under pressure

Indian archers have failed in the quarterfinals. Despite a good start in the Paris Olympics, they have ended up with disappointment once again in the biggest stage. The nation was expecting medals from the archers. However, the men’s team has failed to deliver at the right time. The side lost to the newcomers Turkey in the quarterfinals. The debutant made their first semi-finals as well.

Turkey has never been counted among the powerhouses in the world of archery. For the first time in Olympic history, Turkey has reached the semi-finals in the team archery event. Dheeraj Bommadev, Praveen Jadhav, and Tarundeep Rai disappointed in the quarterfinals. The Indian team did not start well. After losing the first two sets, the team came under pressure. 

Turkey goes through against the odds

Turkey won the first set 57-53. He won the second set 55-53. The Indian team came back into the match by winning the third set. The team of Dheeraj Bommdev, Praveen Jadhav, and Tarundeep Rai won the third set 55-54. This was the only set that India won. However, Turkish archers Mete Gazoz, Abdullah Yildirmis, and Berkim Tumer sealed the win with a 58-54 victory in the fourth set.

Earlier on Sunday, the Indian women’s archery team, which included Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Deepika Kumari, was thrashed 6-0 by the Netherlands in the quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics at Les Invalides. Bhajan Kaur was the most consistent Indian archer on the team, scoring three 10s, two 9s, and an 8. Deepika Kumari and Ankita Bhakat both shot 10, although they struggled to deal with the heavy winds.
