In an exhilarating showcase of talent on State Sports Day, Pantnagar Ghatkopar and MPS Vileparle emerged victorious in the under-seventeen basketball tournament held at Ghatkopar Sports Academy, Mumbai.
In a thrilling boys’ final, Pantnagar Ghatkopar won with ease, defeating the Goregaon MPS team 37-15, with Rajveer’s remarkable 11-point contribution leading the way. Earlier in the semi-finals, Pantnagar secured their spot by overcoming Patel School.
The girls’ final saw MPS Vileparle defeating Worli Seaface 20-10, showcasing their dominance on the court. Bindia Ji’s impressive 8-point performance secured the title. In the semi-finals, Vileparle had a convincing victory over Agripada Urdu School, winning 24-8.
The tournament witnessed intense competition, with Goregaon MPS securing the boys’ runner-up position and Worli CFS claiming the girls’ runner-up spot.
On the occasion of State Sports Day, special recognition was extended to sports teachers and coaches from municipal schools for their exceptional contributions. Notable figures, including Rajesh Ghadge (Sports Officer Municipal), Laxman Gosavi (Municipal Officer), and Michael Andrew (National Athlete), were among those honored with badges of honor for their dedication to the sports department.
While celebrating achievements, some argue that focusing solely on winning might overshadow the true spirit of sportsmanship and the vital lessons it imparts beyond victory or defeat.
