In the fourth match of the T20 series, Pakistan faced another defeat at the hands of New Zealand, marking their seventh consecutive loss since the World Cup 2023. Battling at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch, Pakistan set a target of 159 runs, but New Zealand comfortably chased it down, securing a 3-wicket win in the 19th over.
Pakistan’s Struggling Batting Lineup: Pakistan’s batting woes persisted as they lost early wickets, with Saim Ayub departing for just one run. Despite Babar Azam and Rizwan’s initial efforts, Pakistan faced a collapse, losing wickets at regular intervals. Rizwan’s valiant innings of 90 runs off 63 balls was the lone standout performance, guiding Pakistan to a total of 158/5. However, lack of support from other batsmen hindered Pakistan’s innings.
New Zealand’s Dominant Batting Duo: Chasing the target, New Zealand faced early setbacks but found stability through Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips. Pakistan’s fielding lapses provided Mitchell with two chances, and both batsmen capitalized on the opportunities. Phillips and Mitchell’s stellar partnership of 139 runs for the fourth wicket showcased their dominance. New Zealand achieved the target with 11 balls to spare, securing a convincing victory.
As Pakistan’s T20 struggles persist, the team’s ability to adapt and call for strategic changes to address consistent batting collapses and fielding lapses. Fielding and Pakistan cricket team have some history and we see proofs of the same every now and then.
